Philippines – Bohol & Panglao

The Philippines is a beautiful island country consisting of 7641 islands. With all its islands it can be difficult to choose which to visit. The capital of the Philippines, Manila is of course a very exciting city to visit. The city is not a place to stay for weeks because of the noise of busy feel, but definitely a must for a few days.

If you want to relax then Bohol and the connected island Panglao is definitely the islands to choose. Bohol is most known for its Chocolate hills. Small geological formations that are brown during summer, making them look like chocolate. These mountains are really special, it’s almost like you are a part of an Avatar movie.
Bohol is also known for the Philippine tarsier, which is one of the smallest primates in the world. These animals are a must to see. Their long fingers and enormous eyes are so cute. Sadly this species is endangered. Some actually say that this little animal was Steven Spielberg’s inspiration when creating E.T. The long fingers actually look very similar to E.T’s.

If you are a scuba diver then Bohol and the connected island Panglao is a great place for diving. There are shops offering diving tours located on some of the beaches. Like for example Alona beach on Panglao. This is the most popular beach on this island. Some of the diving trips will also visit small islands for lunch. Diving from Panglao island is actually listed as one of the top ten diving locations in the world.

Panglao is a very small island with a connecting bridge to Bohol. This island is a great place to stay with beautiful beaches, hotels and nice restaurants. Panglao regents park resort is very nice hotel not far from Alona beach.

If you get tired of the relaxing vibe on Bohol and Panglao then the large island Cebu and the capital Cebu city is not far by ferry. You can easily do a day-trip to Cebu. This is a great place to do some shopping.

The capital of Bohol, Tagbilaran is a larger city and this is also where you fly to when visiting Bohol.

Bohol has a few rivers which you can go on cruises on. It is also possible to go on a boat trip at night to see fireflies. This was really magical and unreal. Coming from a country that does not have these little creatures this was really an amazing experience.
