A mini guide to Warsaw, Poland

Warsaw is the capital city of Poland, and also the largest city.

The Warsaw old town is the oldest part of the city; it was established in the 13th century. A lot of it was damaged in 1939 during the invasion of Poland, but it was rebuilt, though it might not have been built in the same way it was before the war. The old town is also the largest tourist attraction in Warsaw. Attractions to see here is Sigismund’s column, the castle square, the market square and St. John’s Archcathedral. Some of the city wall around the old town dates back to 1200-1300.

Not only is the old town beautiful, but there are a lot more to see in Warsaw, like the Lazienki Palace, the Wilanow Palace and the palace of culture and science.

Food

Some traditional Polish dishes are – Bigos (a stew with cabbage, sauerkraut, meat or sausages), Zrazy (meat roulade), Kotlet Schabowy (pork breaded cutlet coated with breadcrumbs), Paczki (Polish doughnuts), Pierniki (gingerbread cookies) and Pierogi (dumplings).

Restaurants

Atelier Amaro – This is the only restaurant in Poland with a Michelin star. This is really an amazing experience. An 8 course dinner takes about four hours to finish. The restaurant focuses on local food that’s in season.

Podwale 25 Kompania Piwna – If you are interested in trying traditional Polish food then this is the restaurant to try. It is located in the old town.
