A mini guide to Mandal, Norway

Mandal is a small city most famous for its beautiful beaches and its seafood festival “Skalldyrfestivalen”. Even though the city is almost forgotten during winter season there is something beautiful about it when it is covered in white snow.

The beaches are still pretty and the town feels like it’s from a Disney film.

If you like going for walks then Furulunden, the forest located at the end of town by the beaches is a nice place to do so. Here you will often get the chance to see wild venison walking around close to the trails. When walking in Furulunden you might also end up on one of the many beaches, the most famous one is Sjøsanden which is the longest beach in Mandal. Here is also where the pier is located which is often photographed by tourists and locals, together with Laksestigen, meaning the salmon ladder.

If you are looking for a great spot to either see or photograph the whole city then Uranienborg is the place. The stairs to reach the top is located behind the city centre.

If you are interested in theater, concerts or going to the movies then Mandal has a huge new cultural centre that is not possible to avoid seeing.

The city also has a shopping mall and a shopping street. The shopping street is especially nice if you want to look at the old buildings in Mandal that date back to the 1800s. Some houses further from the shopping street is even dated back to the 1700s.

Food

Kastellet – This is a nice little restaurant with Spanish inspired food. Read more about it tomorrow.

Provianten – A very nice Danish owned restaurant with both the option of eating dinner and lunch or just having some cake and coffee.

Smoi – A great place for pizza.

Zakos Grill – This is more of a take-away kebab restaurant, but it is very famous in Mandal.
